Shuangxi Academy in Pingjiang, Hunan
"Half
of the poets in the country are in Hunan." The most distinctive feature of
Huxiang culture is its connotative "poetic quality". Shuangxi Academy
reinterprets this poetic quality in its unique way of integrating mountains,
waters and human habitation — taking advantage of the mountain's terrain,
residing by the stream, with a layout that combines separation and integration,
and is scattered yet orderly.
The design of Shuangxi Academy follows the
traditional residential form in the Pingjiang area. It adopts downward-curved
eave lines and vertical facade lines. The upturned eaves of the reception hall
on all sides ensure good light penetration. The "house corner" of the
tea room at the turning point is also the commanding height on the axis echoing
the reception hall, demonstrating the structural strength and high toughness of
Bamboo Steel®. In the construction, in addition to using the conventional
concrete frame as the basic structure, a large amount of Bamboo Steel® is used.
The combination of these materials also puts forward new requirements for the
construction technology.
