From
October 12th to 18th, 2023, the annual public design exhibition "Design
Pavilion" in New York, the United States, organized by NYCxDESIGN, was
unveiled in Manhattan. Three art installations revealed their mysterious veils
after nearly a year of preparation. This exhibition focused on materiality,
sustainability, and social justice. Among them, the art installation
"Bamboo Cloud" that made its debut at Gansevoort Square in New York
was completed using Bamboo Steel® engineered bamboo materials.
Designed
by llLAB., an architectural firm headquartered in Shanghai, China, "Bamboo
Cloud" has received widespread attention from American media. It focuses
on the internal properties of bamboo materials and their potential applications
beyond the conventional. In the official press release, it is stated that it
"particularly stimulates the potential of material properties for broader
applications such as permanent buildings." The lighting system of
"Bamboo Cloud" was designed by L’Observatoire International, a
world-class architectural lighting design company, and in collaboration with
Nanometer Lighting Color Kinetics, a high-efficiency lighting supplier, it
brings an advanced combination of Bamboo Steel® and color kinetics, elevating
the beauty of "Bamboo Cloud" at night to another level.
The
interior of "Bamboo Cloud" is supported by Bamboo Steel® keels, and
the exterior is made of Bamboo Steel® slices, which are hand-woven by craftsmen
from Sichuan. As a high-performance bamboo-based fiber composite material,
Bamboo Steel® engineered bamboo has two seemingly contradictory yet organically
unified properties: high strength and high toughness.
